A women's check blanket scarf — an oversized plaid winter scarf at 50 by 190cm, long and wide enough to wrap twice or wear open like a blanket. The British grid check is knitted in rather than printed, so the pattern reads on both faces.

Warp-knitted from a brushed polyester with a soft cashmere-like hand and a little spandex, so it holds its shape rather than stretching out at the fold where scarves usually go limp.

Care

Cold hand wash, dry flat. Don’t wring it — brushed polyester loses its softness if you twist it out.

Note: The supplier describes this as self-heating imitation cashmere. It’s a warm brushed polyester — genuinely soft and genuinely warm, but there’s no heating technology in it.

These run small. Cut closer to Asian sizing than US or EU. As a rule, go up one to two sizes from your usual, so a US small takes L and a US medium takes XL.

Ribbed and stretch fabrics have more give and are more forgiving. Woven and tailored pieces less so, and worth sizing up on.

Cold machine wash inside out on a gentle cycle. Reshape while damp and dry flat, away from direct heat. Cool iron on the reverse if needed.

Skip the tumble dryer. It is the fastest way to lose the shape, and roughly halves how long the piece lasts.
